We believe it is time to build the institutions our community needs.
That means addressing today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow. Najmaa’s strategy brings together protection through the mutual, community benefit through waqf and a proposed investment pathway through Mutual Capital Instruments (MCIs) / Sukuk.
We want to use the means available to us thoughtfully, with a clear plan and trust in Allah (SWT).
Planning With Tawakkul
In Qur’an 3:159, Allah (SWT) calls on His Messenger to consult others and, after resolving on a course of action, trust in Him. Qur’an 12:47–49 describes Prophet Yusuf (AS) preparing for difficult years by setting aside grain during years of plenty.
We take these passages as a reminder that preparation and reliance on Allah belong together.
For Najmaa, that means seeking advice, building workable arrangements and carrying out our responsibilities carefully. We do the work while recognising that the outcome is in Allah’s hands.
Protection Through the Mutual
Najmaa’s discretionary mutual puts mutual assistance into practice. Members contribute towards an arrangement through which support may be considered when eligible circumstances arise.
This gives people a practical protection option grounded in Takaful. It also requires sound risk assessment and careful management of the resources entrusted to the mutual.
Our aim is to broaden access responsibly, so more people can make choices consistent with their faith.
Lasting Benefit Through Waqf
We have established a separate community endowment with Awqaf Australia to support the development of institutions and lasting community benefit.
Waqf takes a long-term approach: capital is dedicated to a charitable purpose, with the intention of preserving the endowment and using its benefits to serve that purpose over time.
This gives our strategy a way to support needs that extend beyond individual protection. It helps us work towards a continuing source of community benefit, alongside immediate assistance and charitable giving.
Investment Through MCI Sukuk
We are also developing an investment pathway through Mutual Capital Instruments (MCIs) / Sukuk.
The proposed structure uses Wakalah, an agency arrangement through which investments are managed on behalf of investors. Returns would come from the investment activities of the MCI fund, in accordance with the final terms.
Developing investment opportunities is another part of building the financial institutions our community needs. Participation would be a separate investment decision, with its own risks. Capital and returns are not guaranteed.
Why These Parts Belong in One Strategy
Protection, charitable endowment and investment serve different needs. Together, they give us several ways to work towards a community with greater choice and the capacity to sustain its institutions.
Each part requires its own arrangements, clear responsibilities and appropriate oversight. A shared purpose does not remove those obligations.
We believe this gives us a stronger basis for progress than expecting one product or one source of funding to meet every need. It allows us to build for the present while preparing for the years ahead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to participate in every part?
No. You can consider each option according to your needs and circumstances. Obtaining protection does not automatically make you an MCI investor.
Is supporting the waqf the same as investing?
No. A waqf contribution supports a charitable purpose. An MCI / Sukuk investment would involve investment rights, potential returns and the risk of loss under its own terms.
How can I support this work?

Building With Purpose
